Kate Ruck’s design approach considers the role of invented objects in imaginary environments. By incorporating formal elements of the natural world, rituals of mythical and historical cultures, metallurgy of the Middle Ages, depictions of post-apocalyptic societies in literature and film, architectonics of ancient civilizations, Native American art and dress, and J.M. Barrie’s “The Little White Bird”, her work is intended to provide a point of engagement with a fictional world.
